Meditation Services

Discover the peace that meditation brings.

We warmly invite you to join our Meditation Services

The Christchurch Meditation Circle of Self-Realization Fellowship, located in the historic Risingholme Homestead, 22 Cholmondeley Avenue, Opawa, Christchurch , offers regular Meditation and Reading Services. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Paramahansa Yogananda, our Guru, emphasised that the united devotion and concentration of group meditation can powerfully increase the depth of each devotee’s meditation. For those new to the practice of meditation it is recommended to sit in a relaxed upright posture, feet flat on the floor with the hands palms up, placed at the crease of the thighs and torso. Close your eyes and gently raise the gaze to look at the point between the eyebrows. The mind can be focused on an aspect of God such as love, peace or joy and talk to God in the language of your heart.

Service times

Each service has periods of silent meditation. We begin with a prayer and a short inspirational reading, followed by a devotional chant. The meditation ends with a chant, the Worldwide Prayer Circle Service and a closing prayer. For services dates and times, refer to our Service Calendar and please be seated ten minutes prior to scheduled Services. The venue for meditation is not open at other times.

Commemorative Services

These Special Services are held throughout the year to honour either the birth or mahasamadhi (final conscious exit from the physical body) of one of the Self Realization Fellowship line of Gurus. You may bring a flower, symbolising devotion for the Master being honoured, and a monetary donation in an envelope. The donation symbolises loyalty to the work of the Gurus and appreciation of the blessing received through Their grace. Please refer to our Service Calendar for Commemorative Services dates.

...you realize that all along there was something tremendous within you, and you did not know it.
